Ministries to Serve Your Needs

St. John's supports a wide variety of ministries to serve your needs and the needs of the community.


Christian Education Ministries

Crosswalk Preschool
Weekday preschool classes are available for children 3- and 4-years-old starting September 6, 2006. Applications are currently being accepted.

Pilgrim Evangelical Lutheran Elementary School
St. John's partners with Pilgrim Elementary School in offering a quality K-8 education with a focus on God's love for us.

Children's Sunday School
Sunday School meets every Sunday at 9 AM year round.
This children's Bible School (for children ages 3 years through Grade 8) aims to teach the basic Bible stories to our children as well as applying God's love for them to their lives. Children sing God's praises by group singing in worship and learning those precious hymns by heart. Special Education classes are available on request.


St. Croix Lutheran High School
St. John's supports Christian education on a secondary level as well as elementary. St. Croix Lutheran High School is owned and operated by an association of Lutheran Churches in the Twin Cities area and is located in West St. Paul. St. John's Lutheran Church is a member of this association.

Catechism Classes
Learning the basics of the faith for seventh and eighth grade students.
This class meets weekly on Monday at 6:00 PM during the school year to nurture the early teens in the message of God's love and prepare them for full membership in the congregation.

Bible Information Classes (New member classes)
We provide weekly opportunities for adults to become acquainted with God through his Scriptures, and with the teachings and practice of the Lutheran Church. Call 612-379-4296 for class schedules.

Adult Sunday Bible Class
Every week the adults of the congregation are invited to a Sunday morning Bible Class at 9 AM. This class covers a wide variety of topics.

Youth Ministries

Camp Croix
St. John's, by it's membership in the St. Croix Pastor's Conference, owns and operates a summer camp for children just across the border in Wisconsin. The camp, Camp Croix, is available year round to all ages of campers, not just children. It has excellent facilities (lake, canoes, lodge, cabins, outdoor kitchen, camping sites)and is used for retreats, congregational outings, and the like. TEEN Lutheran Christians
St. John's provides for the needs of those in 7th through 12th grades with TEEN Lutheran Christians (TLC), helping them grow in the connections to God and to others their own age during this transitional time in their lives. TLC also helps connect with other teens on a larger scale, helping them participate in major youth rallys held yearly across North America.

Women's Ministries

Mary Martha Guild
This women's organization meets monthly for fellowship. Mary Martha hosts a holiday craft and bake sale, supports mission work, and nurtures our congregation with motherly love. They usually meet at noon for luncheons throughout the year.

Altar Guild
This group maintains the altar paraments, communion ware, and banners... and makes sure that the items used for worship are in good repair and clean.


Christian Compassion Ministries

WELS Lutherans For Life
Christian Life Resources, also known as Lutherans For Life, makes pregnancy counseling available to all. It's also much more, offering information about family, marriage, life issues of our day, and loving, supportive alternatives to abortion to those who find themselves pregnant. St. John's is an active supporter of this ministry.

The Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine
The Lutheran Home of Belle Plaine is an extended care facility just south of the Twin Cities that provides shelter and dignity to those who need assistance with the tasks of everyday living. It offers a variety of residential care to the elderly, the mentally retarded, and others. It offers a unique living environment that enables residents to contribute their remaining strengths in service to those who need them, even as they themselves are being served by others. St. John's is an active supporter of this ministry.

L.I.M.A.
St. John's supports LIMA (The Lutheran Institutional Ministry). This ministry offers chaplains who visit area hospitals, nursing homes, and prisons to offer the Word of God, The Sacraments, and Bible Instruction.

Music Ministries

Choir
Our adult choir meets for practice every Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM It is directed by Michael Mulinix, our organist and musical director. Singing God's praises is a high priority in our church and our choir is vital to our ministry.

Outreach Ministries

Callers for Christ
Looking out for the needs of both congregation and community, Callers for Christ keep in contact with members and those who have shown an interest in St. John's to make sure their spiritual needs are being met.

 WELS Kingdom Workers
Provides volunteer opportunities for Christians to use their talents to help Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) mission divisions reach out to others according the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus. WELS Kingdom Workers supports a number of projects in the Twin Cities, including Hmong and Japanese ministries, Shoreview satellite mission, and serves as a testing ground for various innovative and specialized approaches for reaching others where they are at with the message of God's love.

Message From the Master
Message for the Master is a radio ministry that reaches out with the Gospel to the Twin Cities area every Sunday morning. The show airs at 7:30 AM—1220 on the AM band (WMGT). St. John's is an active supporter of this ministry.

Time of Grace Ministry
Time of Grace television ministry reaches out with the Gospel to the Twin Cities area every Sunday morning. The show airs at 6:30 AM—FOX 9 TV (KMSP-TV). St. John's is an active supporter of this ministry.

Special Groups and Interests

Senior Luncheons
St. John's offers a free-will lunch the second Tuesday of each month from 11 AM to 1 PM. All are welcome to share in good food, good entertainment, and a good chance to gather and enjoy each other's company.

OWLS
The Organization of WELS Lutheran Seniors (OWLS)OWLS invites folks 55 years of age or older and their spouses, or people retired but not yet 55 to join them.

Christian Life Ministries Mission Wearhouse
This thrift store at 2756 Lake Shore Ave., Little Canada (two blocks west of I-35E on Little Canada Road) is an all-volunteer-run effort that resells donated items to raise money to support the ministries of Christian Life Ministries and St. Croix Lutheran High School.

Donatations are welcome Tuesdays 4 to 7 PM. Smaller items can also be dropped off at St. John's. Needed now are clothing, household items, books, furniture. Sorry, they cannot accept computers, bed pillows, curtain rods, children's car seats, window blinds, waterbeds, or mattresses. The store is open Tuesday through Saturday. Call for hours at 651-649-3538. Generally the store opens around 10 AM and closes around 4 PM.
