Meeting Times Changing to Allow Greater Participation
The Psalmist (Moses) writes, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the work of our hands.” This passage should be familiar to all of us. If not, it serves as a good reminder. This passage is the theme of our congregation this year as we continue our building project.
It's not a building project involving wood, stone, and other materials. Instead it's that building project of the members within in our congregation through active use of the Means of Grace.
While we have seen a good share of changes in this past year, there are still more coming. One change involves the meetings of our congregation's various Boards.
In the past, we have met during the week at various times and on various days. Our Boards are in need of more people to carry out the various aspects of ministerial work entrusted to them.
Our Council, through the recommendation of the Board of Elders has decided to have all Boards meet on the first Sunday of the month. These meetings will be conducted in a timely manner (none going past 12:45 p.m.)
For our congregation to function in a healthy manner, not to mention for ministry to expand, the workload needs to be spread out among more of our membership. We hope that by having these meetings on Sundays, it will involve more participation from our congregation. (Most should be here on Sundays.)
Along with that, we also hope that our members will sit in on various meetings to see what gifts/abilities each Board uses to carry out their work and consider how they may use the gifts/abilities that God has given them.
With having these meetings on the first Sunday, we will open up the needed time during the rest of the month for Committee meetings. We realize that not everything is always covered in an hour. The reason for that is because our Boards are doing much of the work that should be handled by specific committees.
